Still trying to come to terms with her new lot in life and deal with parents who've missed her and a brother who hates her, Yelena finds herself entangled in the plot of a killer preying on young women. To make matter worse, she is skirting accusations of being an Ixian spy and avoiding new enemies out for revenge. With the help of old friends and new can she learn to control her new power and stay alive?
What can I say? Maria Snyder did it again! Magic Study captures your attention from the opening scene and doesn't let you go until you reach the very last page. The only complaint I have with this book is that it ended too soon and now I have to wait until book 3 comes out to find out what happens next.
This is definitely a must read.

Yelena has admitted to the worst possible crime imaginable in Ixia. Murder! Her life, therefore, is forfeit. There are no excuses or reasoning for causing the death of another, not even accidents or self-defense are allowable as a defense.
On the day of her hanging Yelena is introduced to the Chief of Security, Valek. Valek offers her a choice: go to the gallows or become the Commander's Food Tester. Yelena values her life and is willing to grasp at any chance of prolonging it, even if it means being poisoned on a daily basis. But Yelena has a secret that could take her choice of life away. Knowing Valek's propensity for learning secrets, will it be possible to keep it hidden from him? Or should follow her heart and trust him?
Maria V. Snyder has created a world of deception and intrigue that is second to none. Poison Study draws you deep into the lives of its characters and keeps you hooked, wondering why Yelena killed, or why Valek takes such an interest in her safety. You feel for Yelena as she is torn between freedom and slow death, or living a prisoner. This book is s definite must read and I am certainly looking forward to the sequel.
