Becoming Lucy starts a new series that promises likeable characters and enjoyable plots. Set in the Oklahoma Territory in the 1800s, the book revisits a time when the wilderness was being tamed by adventurous and ambitious men and women.

Since Lucille Bishop was only 17 when her parents died, her aunt and uncle encouraged her to travel to their ranch in Creek, Oklahoma. Lucille considered this a temporary move, fully convinced that once she received her sizable inheritance on her 18th birthday she would return to the genteel life of Boston. Yet, when she met rugged ranch hand, Jake Starnes, she somehow knew that her old life would never be resurrected. But the pasts of both of these young people stand in the way of a future together. Only time and prayer could move the mountains that block their vision of tomorrow.

The romance was sweet as it slowly developed and the tension mounted in all the right places. Lucille's transition to life on a ranch had several humorous moments, which also allowed this character to grow into a strong young woman. Christianity blankets this story in a cozy warmth, as biblical standards and truths are enacted within the plot. Lucille's vulnerability and fledging independence will endear her to readers and Jake's resounding acceptance of Christ as Savior shows his determination to start a new life.

The second book in the series, Morning for Dove is scheduled for release in May 2012 and features Lucille's Cherokee friend, Dove. Clearly, fans of this series will be invited back for more romance and adventure in the Oklahoma Territory as a total of four books are planned.
