Are you looking for that special book to help calm your kids down and prepare them for bed? Something that will teach them gratitude and install a lifelong habit of prayer? Then look no further than A Night, Night Prayer by Amy Parker.
This beautifully illustrated book revolves around a small child ready to go to sleep, but first must say the night, night prayer. This night, night prayer begins by saying goodnight to the sun and reflecting on what the sun will bring when it wakes. Ending with a whispered goodnight to the parents, the child returns to her bed and giving thanks to God for the special things in the world and 'for watching us with love'.
Amy Parker's gentle rhymes have a soft cadence and sound best when spoken in a soft tone or even whispered as you snuggle a child close. This beautiful story is enhanced by Marijan's delicate watercolour illustrations. Each illustration invites further study as children want to point out certain features, whether it is a mouse peering out of a hole or the deer playing in the forest.
My own children enjoyed A Night, Night Prayer from the first time I opened it to read it at bedtime. As it is not silly or bustling with activity, I don't mind reading it as part of our bedtime ritual.
A Night, Night Prayer is a treasure for both children and parents.
