All her life, Bridgett had dreamed of a white knight riding to her rescue. As she grew older, the drudgeries of her life only emphasized her dreams. Her dreams come crashing down when her stepfather returns home, informs her he lost a card game and she now belongs to a Count.
Vincent didn't know what entirely possessed him to take the man's bet. He rarely played cards or drank, but he needed something to pass the time and now he's won a girl. What is he going to do with her? Put her to work in the kitchen or stables? He decides to worry about what to do with her later and goes to claim his prize.
To Vincent's surprise, his prize isn't a child as he thought, but a beautiful young woman. An innocent young woman. A few moments after they head towards his estate, Vincent decides to train her as his personal pleasure slave. She'll learn to crave sex just as he did, except this time she'll be under his control instead of the other way around.
Bridgett is stunned and secretly thrilled at the Count's announcement that she serve him with her body, however and whenever he chooses. She was raised as a proper young lady, and should be afraid and horrified at Vincent's announcement. She may be his property, but Bridgett is determined to prove she can be all he wants and more.
Settled into Vincent's large estate, Bridgett is given freedom to roam about as she pleases during the day. Her nights are spent in sexual training. As time passes she becomes confused by Vincent's personality changes: during the day he treats with all the caring and attentiveness one shows a lover; at night he uses her as he pleases and leaves without a thought to her pleasure.
Will the Vincent ever overcome his demons and become the white knight Bridgett knows him to be? Or will Bridgett be forced to continually fight to keep her heart intact and her freedom?
An emotionally moving tale by a brand new author, The Dark Count is a credit to Jill Noelle. Ms. Noelle manages to bring an intensity and depth of emotion to a haunting love story. The reader is pulled into Bridgett and Vincent's lives, understanding why they act as they do, but at the same time wanting to shake some sense into them. Ms. Noelle's writing is so vivid, so entrancing, the readers sits on the edge of their seat, reading as fast as they can, hoping there will be a happy ending.
As if the dimensional characters of the hero and heroine weren't enough, Ms. Noelle also tosses in a few secondary characters to further draw you into this wonderful world. One is sorry to leave it, but leaves with a feeling of contentment. I highly recommend The Dark Count and will be keeping an eye out for more from this talented debut author, Jill Noelle.
