For siblings Dayna and Park Curran returning to Wolf Lake was only supposed to be two day trip. Plenty of time to clean out the family cabin and hopefully face their childhood demons. Baseball star Beacan Jarrad was just looking to get away for a few days, find some peace and quiet and enjoy time with his female companion. Billing administrator Kandi saw Beacan's offer as a chance to escape her life for a few days and spend time in the mountains. All of them get more than they expected.
An unexpected winter storm hits, the wind buffets the cabins and the snow falls fast. Unfortunately, the first storm is followed by several more storms, each bringing more extreme weather and stranding the four. A tree falls on one of the cars just as Park was moving it, seriously wounding him. His injuries are severe and he needs help. Beacan and Kandi volunteer to trek through the storm to get help.
Time passes and the weather continues to worsen. Will the four find a way to survive? Or will they succumb to the power of the elements?
Whiteout is one of those rare novels you can't put down until it's finished. While at first glance, Whiteout seems like a classic Man vs. Nature tale, Munn takes this concept and makes it her own. Nature is depicted as just being, not as some malicious creature out to get man. The characters don't underestimate nature; they fully understand its danger, power and beauty. They retain their humanity, ranting when they can't continue, find inner strength and courage and do their best not to give up.
For an unforgettable novel about the strength of the human spirit, pick up Whiteout. Be sure to first clear your schedule though. *g*
