You're familiar with the verse; now read a novel based on this life-changing truth. For years, fans at sporting events have held up placards with "John 3:16" neatly lettered upon them. Author Nancy Moser takes readers behind the sign to a fictional-and quite possible-series of events that leads to this one simple act of faith. Prepare to be amazed.
A young man dies and a group of depressed and disparate people seek the true meaning of life. Their individual stories and sadness become intertwined in a softly, spiraling sequence of encounters that culminate in a dazzling display of the mercy and love of God.
These pages capture the steady pulse of a society that longs for reality-impacting faith. Platitudes and empty promises are blown away, as the author strips the plastic veneer off conventional Christianity to demonstrate lives under the influence and direction of a mighty and merciful God. The large cast of characters realistically depicts our contemporary neighbors and companions, smiling on the outside yet struggling within. Each of their stories resonant with a piercing mixture of pain and hope, making readers almost hear their sighs. The interconnectedness between characters ties this tale together with a precious ribbon of life, and becomes a vivid reminder of our humanity and frailty.
Yet, the story doesn't stop there, on the rim of an empty chasm. As the pages turn, these characters come together for a finale that will leave readers cheering and perhaps changing their mindset about the simple, yet powerful, act of living their faith in a fallen world.
As a story, John 3:16 is excellently crafted. As an encouragement to pursue a higher ideal, words can't describe it.
