Julian

He had not drank blood in almost three centuries. Relying on self-control and special herbal cigarettes he rolled himself, Julian was not an average vampire. He could raw meat, stand in the sunlight for short periods of time, and even wake before sunset. What was he? He certainly wasn't vampire, nor was he human. So many questions plagued him, including his undeniable attraction to the human Lorelei Fletcher. Something about her called to him brought his blood-lust to the surface.

She should have been afraid of him. He rescued her from a crazy and brought her to his house in Connecticut. Lorelei can't fear him, though. Somehow she knows their destinies are linked. When the Senior calls for Julian, she follows, trusting him to keep her safe where none but vampires tread.

Nicholas

He had killed her. He didn't want to hurt her, but her kiss ignited him and he was unable to control himself. Granted this strange compulsion to drink her blood until he was sick had occurred before, but even then he hadn't know what caused it. As he lay on the bathroom floor, surrounded by her blood, Nicholas wished he could have prevented her death.

Even though she had somehow miraculously survived his attack, Dina's death was still eminent. Whatever agents present in Nick's saliva had cured her cancer and bought her a few more hours. Yet the cure was not permanent, her blood cells were healed but still dying. As she and Nick talked things over, he was ordered to report before the new Senior. Would the new Senior be able to explain Nick's compulsion and Dina's current state? Could he find a way to save Dina?

Vivian

She was a vampire blessed with compassion, preying on those with incurable cancer. Those of her make, like Nicholas, possessed the first catalyst necessary to heal dying cancer victims. Her compassion was limitless, extending to all save her own maker.

When Lucien, one of the first vampires, appears and explains many of the mysteries surrounding the new Senior and speaks of the Book of Changing Blood, Vivian is given the task of helping him find it. Time passes and she falls in love with the mysteries Lucien. But will her love remain when his true identity is revealed?

Lorelei

She had been there from the beginning. It was her blood that was necessary for Julian's transformation. Born human, she has no place within a vampire confine, yet she no longer belongs in the human world either. Neither human nor vampire, she is nonetheless a key element in the upcoming battle between the vampire factions.

Lorelei carries the prophesied child of the Transformed. In an attempt to prevent the change sweeping through the vampire ranks, an ancient evil kidnaps her. Like Lucien, this ancient being is also one of the first Ones and he will not hesitate to kill her. Her struggle to survive brings forth gifts she previously did not possess. Are her gifts part of what she has now become? If by chance, she manages to escape will she take her place by Julian's side as his wife and only love?

Simply amazing. Book one of the Vampire Apocalypse breaks the traditional vampire mold. Actually several novellas joined together, each picks up where the others left off. All of the novellas are told from a different viewpoint, giving the reader a different view of the coming apocalypse. We are given a glimpse into the lives of vampires poised on the brink of change. Each vampire is unique, yet undeniably familiar. They are human in the ways that matter most.

I highly recommend this novel. If book two is anything remotely similar, readers are in for a most enjoyable and unforgettable ride. Ms. Knights' has earned her place on my auto-buy list.

Parapychologist Rory Campbell has a solid reputation as a ghost hunter or rather a ghost releaser. Her abilities allow her to help ghosts journey to the next level. She has always enjoyed her work and her latest assignment promises to be interesting.

According to local legends, Lachlan MacGregor murdered his wife in a fit of jealous rage only to be killed a few days later. Rory's abilities allow her to feel his presence throughout the entire house. But will he deign to speak with her?

Lachlan couldn't believe the Campbell woman was going to stay in his house. Already she had lasted longer than her predecessors. Over the years, he'd managed to scare everyone off, including another so-called ghost hunter. Instinctively, he knew she would be the one to free him from his mother-in-law's curse.

As they work together to break the curse, Rory finds herself falling in love with Lachlan. While he returns to her feelings, she cannot help feeling sad; eventually they will succeed in breaking the curse and Lachlan will be free. How will she live without him? Time is running out for the lovers as an evil entity begins stalking Rory, determined to make her his.

Enchantingly tender, The Haunting of Rory Campbell is a wonderfully romantic ghost story. Rory is an endearing, full of courage and determination: a beautiful role model. Her desire to help never wavers even though she could lose her chance of happiness. I enjoyed that Rory never developed a martyr-like attitude; her decision was made and she coped with admirably, never wallowing in self-pity. I highly recommend this novel. It has a earned a place of respect on my bookshelf.
