Nell Allistair was her own woman. The death of her older husband had left her the wealthy owner of a ranch and a saloon. Her heart broken years before, she has no desire to marry again, even though she has plenty of offers. She lives for her work, her friends and her child. Life was perfect, until Brenden Cassidy returned home.
After seven years, Brenden had returned to start over. His previous relationship with Nell ended with him leaving her at the altar. He still loved her, even though she apparently wasted no time in marrying a wealthy older man. Now widowed, all the men in town vied for her hand and he was determined to win her back.
Nell knows Brenden's hiding something; she always knew when he kept things from her. After someone tries to kill her best friend's lover, she agrees to participate in Brenden's latest scheme. She'll do anything to keep him from learning about their daughter.
When an enraged suitor kidnaps Nell hoping to force her hand in marriage, Brenden rides to the rescue. But will he arrive in time?
Fast paced and attention-grabbing, Not the Marrying Kind changed my thoughts on Western Romance. These characters weren't flat or predictible, they were alive, vibrant and full of surprises. While I felt parts of the plot were predictible, the author managed to keep my attention with detailed descriptions and intriguing secondary characters. An interesting read.
