The sounds of love and laughter resound in Calico Canyon. When Grace Calhoun, the town's teacher, gets fired, she knew she would be in for some rough moments. What she didn't expect was that she would soon be running from a longtime pursuer. When she hid in the back of Daniel Reeves' wagon to escape, she started on a course that was nothing short of amazing.
Author Mary Connealy understands that life comes with a delightful amount of laughter, and she included a bunch of grins and giggles in these pages. >From the very first sentence, readers will know that they entered a story that was crafted for their genuine enjoyment The spunk of Grace Calhoun was contrasted beautifully with her dire situation, causing her to be a much-loved character. Daniel Reeves, her romantic interest (or should I say disinterest?) was not the typical hunk of a hero often seen in romance novels. Rather, this man was a widower and the father of five rambunctious boys, collectively known as the Five Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The romantic tension between Grace and Daniel had a surprising twist that elevated their sometimes-blossoming, most-of-the- time-faltering relationship. Reality checks abounded as Grace struggled with some basic and necessary aspects of being a helpmate to Daniel and a mother to the boys. Throughout these pages, a warm family atmosphere pervaded, inviting readers into the rugged and ragged lives of these characters.
The pasts of both Grace and Daniel figure prominently in the story, adding a level of suspense and a few worried sighs. Yet, through their faith, love and a laughter born out of pure joy, these pages lead readers to a place of perfection. The echoes from Calico Canyon will be heard in the heart for a long time!
