Okay, I'm going to say it. I gobbled up this book! I don't know what it is about Gertie Johnson but that character gets me all giddy and goofy-and I love it!
In this novel, Gertie is in the wrong place at the right time-or maybe it's the right place at the wrong time. Either way, our gal was at the local Credit Union when it was robbed at gunpoint. Since most of the locals never leave home without a gun, the robbery ended up more like a turkey shoot. Once the gunman breathed his last, the police discovered that the stolen money had vanished. Actually, the stolen money had been stolen earlier, and this robbery was a ruse. Gertie grabs her stun gun and her two best friends, Cora Mae and Kitty, and the threesome careen into the fast lane of this heist.
Deb Baker has done it again. This book is every bit as wacky and wonderful as the previous ones in the Yooper mystery series. Gertie Johnson's investigative skills are a cross between a bloodhound and a dachshund-she can sniff out the scent but can't seem to collar the perpetrator fast enough. To further complicate matters, Gertie becomes a "person of interest" in the murder investigation, and believe me, what follows is sure interesting! As she tries to stay one step ahead of Sheriff Dickey, life gets tricky as she juggles the medical needs of her son, the meanness of her senile mother-in-law and the romantic lure of George. Whew!
Murder Talks Turkey says a lot in a fast-paced and fun way. Sure, there are some dead bodies to deal with, but leave all that for Gertie to figure out. Just hang on for the ride!
