Shilpi Somaya Gowda is the author of the famous novel The Golden Sun. It is her second novel. The novel is about two childhood best friends Leena and Anil and how they choose different paths in their life. Anil moves to America from India to pursue medicine and Leena marries a person from her neighboring village. The two friends think whether they have made the right choice in their lifetime.

Shilpi Somaya Gowda told that she knew a long list of immigrants. Her grandfather has left India to establish a trading business in a foreign country that is East Africa. And her parents were basically from India. They left India and got settled in Canada. She got settled in the United States for her higher education in a popular university, and she started to live since that time. She added that she was able to share about multiple cultures in her book out of her own experience. Whenever she visits India, she feels like she is visiting her hometown and something close to her heart. She believes that she has some strong connection to India from her heart.

Shilpi Somaya Gowda told that she has got her children to India, and they seem to get adapted easily with the culture and family rhythms.

The writer has mentioned about immigration in her book. She was interviewed how she perceived the idea of immigration to North America. Shilpi Somaya Gowda told she has come across numerous people who immigrate for various challenges and opportunities.

She researched lots and interviewed several doctors to provide real time effect. She feels thankful to the physicians and doctors who helped her in writing the novel.
